Artwork Description:
This painting, inspired by a photograph taken during the artist's trip to Germany, depicts the interior of a gallery at Rudolstadt Castle. A young woman, a close friend and Belarus-born painter, is shown viewing works attributed to Henri Matisse and landscapes, though the actual gallery displayed only medieval German historical landscapes. The composition utilizes warm ocher and silvery grays, with the woman's dress providing a brown-black accent. Gallerist Steve Hoffman was impressed by this scene and subsequently exhibited Chiao's works at the Affordable Art Fair in New York in 2006, resulting in the sale of four large paintings.
